Film Noir
Film noir never goes out of style. A style of dramatic visualisation where using cliches is not only welcomed but a law. What is Film Noir? firstly it's all about dark mood. Misery, llack of moral, despair and pain. The time setting is originally post war. However I am not to concerned with that, sometimes placing a scene in the modern time, but still trying to give it a retro touch if I can. There are a few elements in film noir that should be included, and if not at least one of these elements isn't there, well then it's not a film noir photography. Fog, Cigarette smoking, A mysterious woman (Femme Fatale), an alcolised detective, shadow play, dramatic lightening and creative camera angles are the criterias for any scene. The characteres in film noir always have great names. My main detective goes under the name Max Brilliant, while any other characteres goes without any name for now.
I started shooting film noir in black and white that is the standard, however I moved in the direction of using desaturated colors with a touch of sefia, which also is acceptable.
Most of the photos in this series are obviously staged. However I will inlcude a few real life street images too if they have the film noir feel. If the latter is more what you are looking for, please check out my street gallery.
